No one wakes up dreaming of ending up as a commodity. Yet every day in Belgium, people are trafficked, exploited, threatened and made invisible. Some literally end up on the street with nothing when they dare to flee. That is when the real fight begins for them.
Payoke provides shelter and support to people who are trying to escape human trafficking. We offer a safe place, peace of mind and someone who stays – even when the adrenaline fades and fear and doubt set in. Our case workers accompany survivors to police interviews and medical appointments, help with residence procedures and debts, look for work and
housing together, and are there to listen to stories that have often never been told before.
Without safe shelter, many people simply do not dare to flee. And when they do, continued support prevents them from falling back into poverty, dependence or new situations of exploitation. With time, attention and expertise, a person can slowly regain control over their life.

- survivors can land in a safe place, away from their traffickers
- a dedicated case worker has time to untangle their situation and develop a tailored support plan
- there is legal and administrative support to secure residence status, protection and rights
- people can build a new life: education, work, housing, a social network
