Human trafficking is
modern day slavery,
human beings reduced
to merchandise.
PAYOKE is a non-governmental organization that combats the
trading in and exploiting of human people (Human trafficking).
Besides primary care, guidance and protection of victims, we
expose national and international networks in cooperation
with judicial and police services, with the final goal being the
prosecution of the perpetrators.
PATSY SÖRENSEN is the founder and driving force behind Payoke.
She founded Payoke in 1987. Originally she fought for the rights of
prostitutes in the Antwerp harbor red light district. After eradicating
these local excesses, the organization started getting a more
international character and received the open support of the Belgian
royal family, with the visit of King Boudewijn in 1992. Thanks to the
never-ceasing and unbridled dedication of Patsy Sörensen, the term
"Human Trafficking" became a concept. At present, Patsy Sörensen
and Payoke are seen as the standard concerning national and
international legislation and knowhow about Human Trafficking.
